21st century COE program: THE QI SCHOOL

@Tohoku University 21st century COE program: " Construction of a new generation information electronics system" has founded a research and educational center for nano-technology (NT) and information communication technology (IT). Distinguished professors from the Department of Electronic Engineering, the Department of Electrical and Communication Engineering, the Research Institute of Electrical Communication (RIEC), and the New Industry Creation Hatchery Center (NICHe) are participating in this program. The NT-IT research and educational center has three areas of research and development: (A) fundamental research and analysis/evaluation technology, (B) semiconductor, magnetic, optical and display devices, and (C) computing and transport technology.
@One of the important functions of this center is the "QI School". The "QI School" is a research and educational program based on the Quadruple I's, i.e., Interdisciplinary, International, and Interchange between Industry and academia to promote active researchers and engineers in NT-IT fields throughout the world.
@Outstanding students selected from within Japan and outside of Japan who are working in the above research areas will be provided the following financial support:

  1. Oversea travel and hotel expenses for attending international workshops, short courses and discussions.
  2. Expenses for taking English capability examinations, TOEIC, TOEFL, etc to improve the technical English ability.
  3. Stipend for Research Assistant (RA). Each RA will be provided a stipend of maximum 130,000 yen per month. About 55 RA's are selected from among Ph. D. students.
  4. Research grant for RA's. The maximum amount of the grant will be 500,000 yen per year, with grants given to about 55 students.

@We recommend a student who wishes to enter graduate school and have a strong interest in research relating to the above mentioned new generation information electronics system to take the entrance examination of the Department of Electronic Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Communication Engineering, and apply to attend the QI School, and lead a fulfilling life as a graduate student.
