Information networks are the infrastructure of an information society, and the campus network ``TAINS'' of Tohoku University supports the research and educational activities in every department of the university. The professors of this laboratory belong to the Cyberscience Center which carries out management and promotion of the TAINS, and are doing the following researches.

EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) and electromagnetic information security

Electromagnetic noise interference in an information transmission system degrades its signal integrity, and electromagnetic emanation causes leakage of confidential information. Our study on electromagnetic immunity on a transmission cable focuses on effect of conditions of the cable. Electromagnetic emanation of confidential information in an information processing hardware such as a cryptographic module is studied by interpreting its mechanism and developing countermeasures.

Theoretical foundations of information security

We study fundamentals of cryptography, which are increasingly important on information network systems. Specifically, we are carrying out research on constructing cryptosystems that are secure against a computationally unlimited eavesdropper and on designing protocols for secure computations.

Fundamental technology for operation and application of information networks

A study on distributed visualization is a practical development over a wide-area high-speed network. We research operational support technique for network management and information ethics.
