Secure supply of electric energy is an essential prerequisite for modern society. To achieve the goal, a power system has to withstand incidents such as lightening on a transmission line and has to maintain a balance between power generation and demand at any time.

On the other hand, the environment surrounding a power system undergoes a significant change in the world recently: e.g., large-scale penetration of renewable energies and progressive trend of deregulation. The changes pose us an unprecedented challenge in secure supply of electricity and effective investment on an electricity grid.

We in Advanced Power Engineering Laboratory are continuously engaged in the researches on planning, operation and control of an electric power system to prevent large-scale blackout and to support of secure and efficient power supply under the above-mentioned environment.

The major research topics of the laboratory are as follows:

1. Assessment of impacts of large-scale integration of renewable energy resources into an electricity grid;
2. Technological provisions to facilitate large-scale integration of renewable energy resources into an electricity grid;
3. Analysis and control methods of a large-scale electric power system;
4. Rational power system planning and operation under the competitive environment.
