High reliability is required for electric power which is the core energy that supports modern society. Power transmission and distribution facilities (power cables, substation equipment, etc.) play a key role to ensure stable electric power supply, and are required new technological developments responding to the introduction of renewable energy power generation, coping to the global environment as well as promoting their own progress.

Recently, the environment surrounding the power transmission and distribution facilities is drastically changing due to the introduction of electricity liberalization, the expansion of the renewable energy which tends to fluctuate the amount of power generation, and the aging of facilities installed during the high economic growth period. However, even in such circumstances, stable power supply and efficient power equipment formation are essential to support the foundation of society.

In order to supply electric power more efficiently, safely and stably even in uncertain energy situations, we in Advanced Power Engineering Laboratory are continuously engaged in the researches on the maintenance and operation technology, advanced monitoring and diagnostic technology of power transmission and distribution facilities suitable for the new era.

Research Topics:

  1. Maintenance management technology contributing to stable operation of power transmission and distribution facilities
  2. Evaluation of aging characteristics of power transmission and distribution facilities, advanced monitoring and diagnosis technology
  3. Operation technology of power transmission and distribution facilities that respond to changes in system operation with massive interconnection of renewable energy generation
