Optional Matushima & Disaster area bus tour

An optional bus tour to Matsushima pine tree islands and Higashi-Matsushima city (earthquake desaster area) is scheduled on June 29th, as the first event of the conference.

From the old days of the Heian era, Matsushima Bay offers excessive beauty with charming people. Matsushima is composed of some 260 tiny islands covered with pines, show off the earth and the sea quietly. Zuigan-ji temple, Godai-do and Kanran-tei are also awitng for your visit. The sinful island took the words from Basho, a great Haiku poet. Matuushima is also well known as one of the three Most Scenic Spots of Japan.

Higashi-Matsushima, an earthquake disaster area where many buildings were swept up by the tsunami. This will be a valuable experience for all of the participants to learn the reality of the Great East Japan Earthquake and the associated tidal wave (tsunami) attack. A Kataribe(storyteller) will tell his/her own story associated with the earthquke and tsunami. English translation provided.

Leaving Sendai down town around 10:00am, and come back around 4:00 pm. You can continue bus ride to the conference venue for registraion and welcome reception.

This optional tour is NOT included in the regular conference registratoin fee. Reserve your sheet by clicking the check box for "Disaster area tour Ticket" during your registraion process. On site registration is possible if sheets would be available. Max 50 perticipants.
